** Fair

For near to three hours you witness the brutality in the US Western wilderness in the 1820s ad nauseum. The film has interesting computer imaging of novel and imaginative scenes. This film is totally 100 visual. Not one bit of dialogue advances the story line. Leonardo DeCaprio has no more than 12 lines of dialogue... he mostly grunts and groans as his screen time is spent grunting and moaning from the most gruesome fights and injuries that one can indure e.g. from knives, rifles, pistols, another's fists and falling from great heights into trees and freezing water. Oh yes, he gets pretty mush torn apart by a bear in the first 15 minutes. The golden globes awarded DeCaprio for his performance. Sorry but this one is not justified. Only for those who enjoy extreme brutal fighting.
